While introducing the Union Budget in February 2022, Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman announced the making of the digital rupee, India’s very own Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). In the backdrop of a burgeoning private cryptocurrencies market, the government has taken its first steps towards making CBDC a reality, to shore up India’s centralised monetary and financial ecosystem.
