In 1936, clad in a traditional saree, 21-year-old Sarla Thakral entered the cockpit of a small double-winged plane, bracing herself to fly solo for the very first time. While a thousand hours of flying had prepared her for this, she perhaps did not expect to pave the path for so many as the first Indian woman to fly an aircraft.
